Packing your kitchen efficiently is a necessity for a smooth transition.  Let’s think about this. The kitchen needs to be used all the way to moving day. Therefore it needs to be one of the last rooms packed. Keep in mind it will need to be the first room unpacked at your new location. The following are a few topics that will help you stay on task and pack effectively.

Gather Packing Supplies: Before you start be sure to have the supplies needed such as packing paper, bubble wrap, ziploc bags for smaller items, labels, permanent markers, scissors, garbage bags and most importantly our eco-friendly plastic packing boxes/bins/crates. Also make use of kitchen towels to help cushion any breakables. Having supplies on hand will save you time and ensure items are protected during transit.

Delutter while Packing: If you find items you have completely forgotten about start a give away/throw away pile. This helps lighten your load and will make unpacking more manageable. To streamline the process pack pots and pans, dishes, glassware and utinsels in an organized fashion.

Pack Methodically: Start by packing items used less frequently.  Examples are specialty appliances or seasonal cookware. Wrap dishware/glassware separately using packing paper or bubble wrap. Cushion them with crumpled packing paper or dish towels inside the boxes. Stack heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top to prevent breaking fragile items. Fill any empty space with crumpled packing paper to prevent shifting during transit.

Label Boxes Clearly: Be specific when labeling kitchen boxes. For example, pots/pans, dishes, glasses, spices, bakeware and utinsels. Additionally, mark “FRAGILE” on every box that containers breakables to ensure they are handled with more care.

Pack Essentials Separately: Pack a separate box with kitchen essentials needed immediately upon arrival. This box could include a few essentials from the pantry, a pot and pan, utensils, plates, cups (these can be disposable), paper towels and dish soap. Keep this box easily accessible during the move so you can access these without unpacking everything right away.

By following these steps and staying as organized as possible, you can ensure a smooth transition to your new home.
