To help keep the stress level down the morning of moving day, take a few minutes the night before to map out items in a specific area needed for the big day. Advise each family member of their specific responsibilities they have that morning.
1. A Good Night’s Sleep: This can be difficult due to all of the stress and excitement. However, getting 7-8 hours of sleep can help you tackle the stress and labor of the big move.
2. Energy Foods: Boiled eggs, bagels, protein bars, orange juice and don’t forget the donuts! Most importantly order a box of fresh brewed Starbucks coffee online. And don’t forget a cooler of bottled water and sodas on ice.
3. Essential items: Before loading the truck, ensure you have double-checked that all essential items are easily accessible. This can include toiletries, medication, change of clothes, important documents, snacks and anything else that is an essential item for your family.
4. Moving Logistics: Take a moment to check phones for last minute delays from movers, friends and family members that are helping. Have friends and family on a single text thread to keep communication lines open with minimal confusion during the moving process. Keep all contact information of the moving company in an easy to remember place just in case you need to get a hold of them during transit.
5. Secure Previous Home: Now that the old home is empty do a final walkthrough ensuring nothing has been left behind. Check all kitchen cabinets, drawer under the stove, fridge, closets and storage spaces including the attic. Leave any keys and garage door openers if required. Secure the home by making sure all windows are closed and locked, turning off the lights and locking doors.
By preparing the night before and following these steps you can start your moving day off on a positive note. This will ensure a smoother transition to your new home. While there is some stress involved during a move having a plan helps to negate a portion of that.
